History

The Mineola History Museum occupies a 1937 former post office built in Depression-era style, converted to a museum in 1998 and later listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It preserves the heritage of Mineola, a Wood County town born in 1873 when the Texas and Pacific and International-Great Northern railroads raced to a common crossing point. The town became a timber-belt railroad center, and the T&P moved its terminal there in 1929.
