History

Clover Hill Cemetery adjoins the Clover Hill Baptist Church in Wood County, in a community settled in 1856 by families from Georgia and Alabama who the next year built their church on a hill covered with yellow clover. The first burial in the community cemetery came in 1868, an infant son of G.H. and Sallie Pogue, though the oldest headstone belongs to Martha Benton (1840-1862), whose marker was moved here from a home burial. A cemetery association was organized in 1926; by 1960 little remained of Cloverhill beyond the church and cemetery.
