History

Dumas Cemetery, also known locally as the Greer Cemetery, marks the vanished community of Dumas in south-central Wood County, about six miles west of Mineola. The settlement existed by at least 1881, the earliest death recorded in the cemetery, and supported a school with forty students by 1896, but it was abandoned sometime after 1906. The cemetery still appears on mid-20th-century topographic maps as a lingering trace of the community.
