About this tour
Brenham has been the seat of Washington County since the 1840s, a German-flavored market town wrapped around a courthouse square of handsome brick storefronts, banks, and hotels. It is also the home of Blue Bell Creameries, founded here in 1907 and beloved across Texas, whose plant on the edge of town has drawn visitors for generations. This drive circles the historic downtown, from the courthouse and its old banking house to the hotel and the churches, then rolls out to the creamery that put the town's name on freezer shelves everywhere.
