West of Houston, past the last suburbs, the land opens into the working farm country of Waller and Fort Bend counties — and two beloved pick-your-own farms turn that country into a family day out. This driving loop connects Blessington Farms near Simonton, where you fill buckets with strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries in season, with Dewberry Farm in Brookshire, a sprawling fall attraction of pumpkins, corn mazes, and dozens of activities. Both farms lean seasonal, so what you'll actually pick depends on the month: berries in spring and early summer, pumpkins and mazes come autumn. Between them there's a taste of small-town Texas and plenty of open sky. Wear old shoes, bring a hat and sunscreen, and check each farm's season and hours before you set out.
