Spanning Hickory Creek on the old line between Denton and Corinth stands a slender iron truss bridge built in 1884 — officially the Old Alton Bridge, but known to generations of locals as Goatman's Bridge for a long-told ghost story that we'll keep firmly in the realm of folklore. The bridge once carried wagons toward Alton, the vanished town that served as Denton County's seat in the early 1850s before the courthouse moved on and the community faded into the trees. This driving loop ties the famous bridge to the ghost town it served and to the pioneer cemeteries beside it: Old Alton's burying ground, the marker recalling the 1848 county seat, and Corinth's Shiloh Cemetery. It's a short, atmospheric tour through some of the oldest and most storied ground in the county — best driven in daylight.
