About this tour

Long before they became Depression-era legends, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were poor kids from West Dallas — the floodplain shanty district along the Trinity that locals grimly nicknamed the Devil's Back Porch. The Barrow family ran a filling station there, and the hard, dusty world of West Dallas in the 1920s shaped the young outlaws who would later cut a violent path across the central United States. This driving tour traces their origins and their resting places: the cemetery where Clyde and his brother Buck lie, the site of the family filling station, the levee district they came up in, and the old frontier community at the western edge of town. The story is grim, and these are real graves and real neighborhoods — treat them as the somber history they are, not a celebration of the crimes.
