In the forty-five minutes after shots rang out in Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963, the story of the Kennedy assassination moved south across the Trinity River into Oak Cliff. It was here, in the older streetcar suburb where Lee Harvey Oswald had taken a rented room, that the manhunt reached its violent climax — a patrolman shot dead at a quiet intersection, and a fugitive cornered an hour later in a neighborhood movie house. This driving loop traces that afternoon and the deeper history of Oak Cliff itself: a community that began as Hord's Ridge, grew into an independent town, and was folded into Dallas in 1903. Between the assassination sites you'll pass a pioneer cemetery, a landmark high school, and the commercial heart of a district that has always had its own fierce identity. Drive it slowly, and read the place as more than the worst day in its history.
