About this tour

Just south of downtown, on the green where Dallas first set aside a public park, sits the largest collection of relocated nineteenth-century buildings in Texas. Dallas Heritage Village — long known as Old City Park — gathers pioneer cabins, a grand antebellum mansion, a working farmstead, and a whole reconstructed Victorian town onto grounds that were the city's first park back in 1876. The land itself is historic: natural springs here drew Native peoples and early settlers, supplied Dallas with water, and helped lure the railroads whose crossing made the city. This short walking loop takes you from those springs to the cabins, houses, and mansion that tell the story of how North Texas was settled. It's living history in the open air — a quiet, shaded counterpoint to the skyline just to the north.
