A short hop east of the Hilltop, Lower Greenville has been Dallas's go-to bar strip for generations of Mustangs, and it still packs some of the city's oldest drinking rooms into one walkable mile. This route starts at a nautical dive that first poured in 1947 and heads north up Greenville Avenue past a trailer-kitsch hideaway, a gastropub the neighbors actually champion, and Dallas's longest-running Irish pub. It finishes at Stan's Blue Note, which traces its roots to 1952 and bills itself as the oldest continuously operating bar in town. 21+ only — please drink responsibly and plan a sober ride or rideshare home.

What you'll see
Just east of the SMU Hilltop, Lower Greenville Avenue has been the place generations of Mustangs and Dallasites go for a night out, and it still packs some of the city's oldest drinking rooms into one walkable mile. This crawl is less about the party than about the stories behind the bars: who opened them, what they survived, and why the neighborhood keeps coming back to them.
The history runs deep. Ships Lounge has been pouring on Greenville since 1947, long ran as a bring-your-own-liquor joint, and after reopening under new owners in 2016 added an upstairs lounge styled like a captain's cabin, which staff have been known to call haunted. Stan's Blue Note traces its roots to 1952, when blues player E.E. Stanley opened it partly so his band had somewhere to play; it bills itself as the oldest continuously operating bar in Dallas and has grown into a sprawling sports bar.
The route also includes the Dubliner, opened by Dublin-born Peter Kenny in 1994 and widely called the city's oldest Irish pub, known for carefully poured Guinness and a long whisky list, and Single Wide, a pint-size spinoff that jokes it is half the trailer, decked out like a 1970s mobile home with mounted deer heads and a long wooden bar.
It's a compact, character-rich slice of Dallas nightlife history. The crawl is 21+ only, so pace yourself, drink responsibly and plan a sober ride or rideshare home.
