About this tour

Duncanville wears a modern nickname — the City of Champions — earned by its powerhouse high-school sports teams. But the town beneath the banners is a classic Texas railroad settlement, born when the tracks came through in the 1880s and a storekeeper named the place after the man who helped secure the right-of-way. This compact driving loop gathers Duncanville's founding landmarks in a tight cluster near its old core: the city marker, the home of a builder who raised much of early Duncanville, the two pioneer churches that organized as the railroad arrived, and the little music room saved from a vanished schoolhouse. It's a short route through the founding chapter of a town now better known for trophies — proof that even a champion has humble, hard-working roots.
