About this tour

Galveston's grand hotels are, in a very real sense, monuments to survival. The Hotel Galvez rose on the seawall in 1911 as the island's answer to the 1900 Storm, a defiant statement that Galveston would live on as a resort. The Tremont carries a name that reaches back to 1839 and the birth of the city itself. Both are documented, working landmarks — and both have collected, over more than a century, the kind of ghost stories that gather around any place people have loved, waited in, and grieved in. This short drive links the two, and at each we do the same thing: tell you the honest history first, then the legend that guides and guests repeat, clearly labeled as the folklore it is. These are stories, not sightings we vouch for. Enjoy them the way generations of islanders have, with one foot in the tale and one in the truth.
