Broadway's Haunted Mansions: Ashton Villa, Bishop's Palace & Moody

Broadway was Galveston's boulevard of fortunes, a wide avenue where cotton kings, bankers, and lawyers built palaces to announce their wealth. Three of the greatest still stand — Ashton Villa, Bishop's Palace, and the Moody Mansion — and all three are documented, tourable landmarks cared for as treasures of Texas architecture. They are also, in island folklore, deeply haunted, each with a resident spirit that guides and guests have described for generations. This short drive links them, and at every house we do the same thing: tell you the true history of the family and the building, then the ghost legend, plainly labeled as the story it is. We do not claim these spirits are real; we claim these houses are, and that the tales are a genuine part of how Galveston remembers the people who lived and died in them.
