On the west end of Galveston Island, three enormous glass pyramids rise from the coastal flats like something out of a science-fiction film — and inside them is one of the best family days on the Texas coast. Moody Gardens grew out of a hippotherapy program in the 1980s and became a sprawling nonprofit destination stitching together an aquarium, a rainforest, science exhibits, giant-screen theaters, and a paddlewheel boat. This driving tour moves you between the pyramids and the property's outer attractions so you can pace a full day without wearing out little legs. Plan on a half-day at minimum; buy the day pass if you want to see it all. Bring layers — the rainforest is warm and humid while the aquarium runs cool.
