The rolling country northwest of Houston, around the historic town of Montgomery and neighboring Plantersville, has quietly become a little wine region of its own — a cluster of family-run tasting rooms set among pines, pastures, and pecan trees. This half-day driving loop links the anchor of the area, a Tuscan-style winery pouring award-winning bottles since the mid-2000s, with a spread of newer vineyards and tasting rooms that have grown up around it. It's a country drive as much as a wine trail, with barns, back roads, and small-town squares between the pours. Because the roads are rural and the pours add up, bring a designated driver or a group and treat it as a leisurely day.
