Sachse exists because a Prussian immigrant gave away his land. In 1886, when the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad wanted to run tracks through this stretch of farm and ranch country, William Sachse donated the right-of-way — and in return the company laid out a townsite, built a station, and named the stop for him. This walking loop follows that bargain and the family who made it. The route visits the city's origin marker, the cemetery William Sachse set aside beside a church, his own family burying ground, and a fine early bungalow built by another pioneer family who studied Frank Lloyd Wright. For most of its history Sachse stayed a tiny rural settlement; only after Lake Lavon and the water district arrived did it grow into the suburb of today. This is the small, rail-built town it started as.
