Tomball wears its heritage on its sleeve — a railroad town founded in 1907, settled by German families who thought the wooded countryside recalled the Black Forest, and still proud enough of both roots to throw two full German festivals a year. Old Town Tomball, the walkable core of the city, keeps its early-twentieth-century storefronts filled with antique shops, boutiques, and cafes, all gathered around the 1907 railroad depot that gave the town its start. This walk traces the antique district and the depot plaza where the German markets set up, telling the story of a Trinity and Brazos Valley Railroad stop that grew into a beloved shopping town. Come during German Fest weekends in spring and December and you'll find the streets in full lederhosen-and-dirndl swing. On an ordinary day, the antique shops and the depot museum are draw enough. Wear comfortable shoes for the brick and boardwalk sidewalks.
