About this tour

Wimberley is a Hill Country village that grew up around water — the spring-fed pools of Cypress Creek and the mill that first put a wheel to the current. Pleasant Wimberley bought the old mill in 1874 and gave the settlement its name, and the town has been drawing people to its creek ever since: to the cypress-shaded swimming hole at Blue Hole, to the astonishingly deep artesian spring at Jacob's Well, and to a square that turned into an artists' colony and the home of Texas's most famous first-Saturday market. This drive threads the mill site, the founder's house, the two great swimming holes, the century-old cemetery, and a pioneer family's homestead — the full arc of how a creek made a town.
