History

Bowman Cemetery lies near the Archer–Wichita county line southwest of Wichita Falls, serving the German farming community once called Springtown and later renamed for Evangelical bishop Thomas Bowman. W. A. Bacon donated the land in 1885 to the Evangelical Missionary Society of North America, and the first burial — Christina Schmith — took place that same year. A distinctive sandstone mausoleum built around 1900 by A. F. Decker stands on the south side, and the cemetery received a Texas historical marker in 1986.
