History

The Wellhausen-Fricke Cemetery is a small burial ground in the Cat Spring vicinity of western Austin County, its hyphenated name marking two of the German families who settled the area. Cat Spring itself was founded in 1834 by German colonists from Oldenburg and Westphalia and became one of Texas's earliest German communities as well as an important dispersal point for later Czech immigration.
