History
Bandera County, organized in 1856, used makeshift quarters until 1877, when it purchased an 1868 two-story stone building that became the old courthouse and served county offices until 1890. The adjacent one-story cut-stone jail, designed by San Antonio architect Alfred Giles, was built in 1881 and used until 1938. Marked in 1965, both buildings were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
