History

Pin Oak Cemetery lies in the largely vanished community of Pin Oak in southeastern Bastrop County, a settlement founded by German Catholic immigrants, many from Westphalia. Catholic worship began here as early as 1849, and in 1869 the Diocese of Galveston bought six acres east of Pin Oak Creek and built St. Mary's Church, whose cemetery served the surrounding farm families.
