History
The State Highway 53 Bridge crossing the Leon River between Belton and Temple is a riveted eight-panel Parker through-truss bridge built in 1939. It was fabricated by the Mosher Steel Company of Houston and Austin Bridge Company of Dallas and designed by the Texas Highway Department using a custom plan rather than a standard state design. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 as part of the "Historic Bridges of Texas, 1866-1945" study.
