History
The Bell County Museum in Belton is housed in the former Belton Carnegie Library, funded by a $10,000 grant secured by the Women's Wednesday Club and completed in 1905. After a new library opened in 1975, the building passed to the county Historical Commission and was renovated to reopen as a museum. Its collection of more than 12,000 objects includes the Miriam A. Ferguson Collection on the first female governor of Texas and material from the Gault archaeological site, one of the earliest human sites in the Americas.
