History
Funded by a $10,000 gift from Andrew Carnegie pledged in 1903, Belton's Carnegie Public Library was designed by the firm Smith & Moore, built by contractor Ben D. Lee, and formally opened in May 1905. The two-story building served as the city's public library until 1975 and now houses the Bell County Museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
