History
The Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum is housed in the Santa Fe Depot at 315 W. Avenue B, a Prairie/Beaux Arts building designed by Chicago architect Jarvis Hunt and completed in 1911. Founded in 1973 to preserve Central Texas railroad and local history, the museum reopened in the restored depot in August 2000 after the Santa Fe Railroad donated the abandoned building and the city funded its restoration. Locomotives, passenger cars, and cabooses are displayed on the grounds, and the depot still serves as an Amtrak station.
