History

Now known as the Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building and United States Courthouse, this downtown San Antonio building served as a courthouse, post office, and federal office. It was designed by local architect Ralph Haywood Cameron in association with Philadelphia architect Paul Philippe Cret under the Office of the Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury. Its cornerstone was laid in 1935, construction finished in 1936, and it opened in 1937. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 2000.
