History

German immigrant Max Aue built a 1.5-story limestone house here in 1855, its lower level serving as a mercantile store on the San Antonio-to-Boerne stage road at Leon Springs. A two-story Greek Revival hotel was added in 1878 to lodge travelers, and the complex of vernacular Texas structures was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
