History
The Garcia-Garza House at 214 W. Salinas Street began about 1856 as a one-story row of caliche-block rooms built by Mariano and Tomasa Chavez de Garcia on land Tomasa had inherited in 1851, with a two-story brick section added around 1900. Reportedly the longest continuously occupied home in San Antonio, used as a residence from 1856 until 1981, it is the only surviving house in the Main Street/Military Plaza Historic District and was listed on the National Register in 1983.
