History

Simona Smith Fisk (1829-1890) was born at Mission San Francisco de la Espada to the noted Texas Revolution scout Erastus 'Deaf' Smith and Guadalupe Ruiz. As a child she joined her family in the Runaway Scrape as they fled the Mexican army in 1836. In 1849 she married James Nathaniel Fisk, and she later lived in San Antonio, where she died and was buried in the Alamo Masonic Cemetery; a headstone was placed at her grave during the 1936 Texas Centennial.
