History

Completed in 1749, the Spanish Governor's Palace on San Antonio's Military Plaza was the residence and offices of the local presidio captain and is the only surviving example in Texas of an aristocratic 18th-century Spanish Colonial in-town residence. The keystone above the entrance bears the coat of arms of Spanish King Ferdinand VI and the date 1749; the building was named a National Historic Landmark in 1970 and is now a city-owned museum.
