History

This San Antonio marker is part of the King's Highway, or El Camino Real, the Spanish royal road linking the Rio Grande country with East Texas and Louisiana. San Antonio was a central point on the route, and the DAR's dedication ceremony for the marking project was held at Marker #84 in San Pedro Park on March 2, 1918. Between 1915 and 1918 the Daughters of the American Revolution and the State of Texas placed 123 pink granite markers along the road.
