Northwest Vista College took shape in the mid-1990s after World Savings donated about 112 acres in Westover Hills for a new Alamo Community College District campus, and it opened in the fall of 1995 with just 12 students taking classes at Northside ISD schools and corporate partner sites. Its early signature program trained semiconductor technicians alongside local employers. Construction of the permanent campus began in 1997, Mountain Laurel Hall opened in October 1998, and Manzanillo and Huisache halls followed a year later. Regional accreditation came in 2001, and a 2005 Bexar County bond package funded a building boom around the campus lake, Lago Vista, that includes Juniper Hall and the Redbud Learning Center. The Alamo Colleges campus now enrolls more than 18,000 students and marked its 30th anniversary in 2025.
