History
The Bowie County Jail in Boston was built in 1888 as a two-story brick building on a limestone foundation, with a hipped roof crowned by a central cupola and weathervane and tall arched windows. It served as the county jail until the 1960s and remains one of the last links to Old Boston's era as the county seat. Purchased and restored by a local committee, it reopened as a museum in 1998; it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and is a State Antiquities Landmark.
