History

Bowie County's present courthouse in New Boston was built in 1984-1985, after the county seat was relocated from the nearby town of Boston to New Boston. Designed by the Texarkana firm of Thomas-Emberton Associates, it is a two-story buff-brick and concrete Modern-style building whose north front carries tall columns supporting an overhanging roof. It replaced the county's ornate 1889-1891 courthouse in Boston, which stood vacant for years before being destroyed by fire in the late 1980s.
