History

The Alvin Museum Society was chartered in 1978 out of the city's bicentennial commission to collect and preserve local history. The Alvin Historical Museum occupies the town's former post office at 300 West Sealy in the historic downtown, with permanent exhibits tracing Alvin from its 1879 origins as a Santa Fe railroad loading site through ranching, farming, and wartime eras. The society also maintains a restored 1910 Victorian house furnished to reflect the period.
