History

The Confederate Cemetery in Alvin was established in the 1890s by the John A. Wharton Camp of the United Confederate Veterans as a burial ground for Confederate veterans and their families, and its use was later extended to the public. Interments include Confederate and a few Union soldiers, victims of the 1900 Galveston hurricane, and local civic leaders. A historical marker was erected at the site in 1968.
