History

Bishop G.H. Kinsolving organized the Holy Comforter Episcopal mission in Angleton in April 1898, building on two lots donated at Chenango and Peach streets. To fund an organ, Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands donated a dress that was cut into scraps and sold. The 1900 Galveston hurricane destroyed the first structure, and a second building consecrated in 1902 withstood later storms; the congregation became a parish in 1944 and dedicated its present church in 1956. The Texas Historical Commission marked it in 2009.
