History
Temple Freda, built in 1912, is a former synagogue serving a congregation of Jewish immigrants who had organized in Bryan in 1890. It is named for Ethel Freda Kaczer, wife of congregation president Benjamin Kaczer, making it the only Texas synagogue named for a woman. The Classical/Greek Revival building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 22, 1983, and after a 2013 citizen restoration effort now hosts community events.
