History

Allen Academy grew from Madison Academy, founded in 1886 by educators John H. and Rivers O. Allen, who relocated the boys' boarding school to Bryan in 1899. The academy's Memorial Hall, a two-story Mission Revival building erected in 1924, honored the school that became a nationally recognized honor military academy, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
