History

Built in 1895 west of Lockhart and designed by architect W. W. Randle in a Late Victorian and Italianate style, the M. A. Withers House was the home of Marcus Allen Withers, a noted trail driver and cattleman who drove herds into eleven western states before ending his annual drives in 1887. The farmhouse and its agricultural outbuildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
