History

Maxwell Hispanic Cemetery served the Mexican American families of Maxwell, a railroad community in western Caldwell County. The town was renamed Maxwell in 1887 when the Katy Railroad was built through the former New Martindale settlement, honoring 1845 land grantee Thomas Maxwell, and it drew a mix of Southern, German, and Mexican American residents.
