History

Zedler Mill on the San Marcos River is the last survivor of several mills built along the river in the late 1800s, established in 1874 as Luling's gristmill. German immigrant Fritz Zedler became sole owner in 1888; after a fire destroyed the three-story mill that October, the family rebuilt it within seven weeks, and by 1894 the mill also supplied Luling with electric power. The restored complex of seven structures now operates as a history museum and park.
