History

The Rio Grande Valley Museum, also known as the Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum, preserves the history of the Lower Rio Grande Valley across a cluster of historic buildings. These include the home of Harlingen founder Lon C. Hill, the 1860s Paso Real Stagecoach Inn, and Harlingen's first hospital. First proposed in 1959, the institution opened in the 1960s and took the name Rio Grande Valley Museum in 1968.
