History
The Purvines Ranch Home in Carson County was built between 1906 and 1908 by Carroll and Kate Purvines, who had come to the Texas Panhandle from Illinois. Because lumber was scarce on the open plains, they constructed the house from cement blocks they made by hand using local sand. The home was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1964, and the family name is also carried by an annex at the Carson County Square House Museum in Panhandle.
