History
The Mathews-Powell House at 205 Miller Street in Queen City is a Victorian home built in 1878 by Confederate veteran and merchant William Franklin Mathews and his wife Harriet. Ross A. Powell bought the house in 1918, and it remains a well-preserved example of symmetrical Victorian architecture with ornate 'gingerbread' detailing. It was named a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1973 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
