History
Atlanta, in Cass County, was established in 1872 with the building of the Texas and Pacific Railway and named for Atlanta, Georgia, the former home of many early settlers. The Atlanta Historical Museum occupies the historic railroad depot, which also serves as a welcome center, and includes a display honoring Atlanta native Bessie Coleman, the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license. The museum collects and exhibits materials relating to the city's history.
