History

On October 15, 1872, the Rev. James A. Steger deeded this site to the trustees of the Hickory Grove Methodist Church for use as a community burial ground. A Civil War veteran, Steger may have used the land as a family cemetery beforehand, and the church's sanctuary once stood just north of the graves.
