History

Corine Cemetery, about seven miles northwest of Jacksonville near the Neches River, is tied to the Friendship Baptist Church, organized in 1872 in a log building shared with the community school. The cemetery, which takes its name from the surrounding Corine community, has burials dating to 1866, its earliest being that of John Mixon. Early baptisms were held in the Neches River or Carey Lake, and veterans of several wars are buried there.
