History

Jarratt Cemetery lies in the old Turney community south of Jacksonville. Devereux and Polly Ann Jarratt of Virginia settled the area in 1850, and in 1858 their sons Morris and Wade set aside the ground for family and public burials; the first grave was that of a transient worker named Watts in 1858. Additional land was donated by area residents over the years, and a cemetery association was formed in 1961.
